CoreMetrics Offers Money Back Guarantee for Omniture Switchers
CoreMetrics Offers Money Back Guarantee for Omniture Switchers
CoreMetrics’ marketing targets Omniture customers in a “money back guarantee” / high street retail tactics.

I know that everyone was really taken aback from Josh James’ decision to sell Omniture to Adobe. However, $1.8 billion dollars (plus a position on Adobe’s board) is tempting enough for even the most loyal company builders that have built their company up from nothing.
Now eConsultancy (see related links) says that this is smart marketing. Is it? Is it opportunism? Is it desperation for clients? I don’t know but, I must say that the product drives my decision to recommend a tool to a customer. The price can be argued / debated later on in the decision making process.
I do like the ‘money back guarantee’ is this high street retail tactics at its best? Maybe the next thing for web analytics companies is to launch loyalty cards. No that sounds silly.
December 15th deadline? Is this giving people enough time to make the decision to move? What about the historical data? Can Coremetrics incorporate Omniture data? Will Omniture allow an export of data? What about running the two tools in tandem in order to build confidence in the new tool and the new figures in the dashboard. Are they are implementation issues or conflicting issues with having these two providers on at the same time?
What would be smart is if a tool could be created by one of the vendors to migrate the tags over automatically? Perhaps that is a service for Maxamine or WASP (now belonging to iPerceptions). Press a button – select current tool, select new tool and select either migrate, delete or copy. I wonder what the implications would be if someone developed such a tool…. any developers out their listening?
Love to hear your comments – especially if you work for one of the other vendors.

Actually, I think Coremetrics has been doing this type of “money back guarantee” for a while now. I just hope companies are not selecting a vendor over another based on such marketing tactics… Nothing can replace a good selection process, not even “free” or “money back guarantee”. We’re not talking about a “19.99$ two easy payment” type of gizmo, we’re talking about serious resources investment into implementation, training, configuration, change management… credibility & accountability. I don’t know of any company who would in its right mind say “let’s give it a try for a year and we’ll trow it out the window if we’re not happy!”…
A while back when I was working on WASP I had that crazy idea of using it to convert WebSideStory HBX tags into Omniture SiteCatalyst tags. From a technical perspective it could work, but the reality is when you change tool, you also want to review your objectives and measurement strategy, and you simply can’t make a one-to-one blinded conversion. I know there are some “universal tags” solutions out there, and the concept of event driven data collection is picking up. For sure, there is a lot of frustration with the actual concept of JavaScript tagging…

Thanks for the comment Stéphane. I was thinking reading the Coremetrics material that it would be relatively easy to do a tag matching process and then just do a find and replace – I’m not sure about the technical possibilities.
Wondering what solutions like ClickStream and TagMan would think of being able to do this.
However, the problem is the event tracking, hovers, clicks etc. As you would need to change the function and the total syntax.
Thanks again my friend
