New Online Shop and Proper Multi Device Testing
New Online Shop and Proper Multi Device Testing
One of the things that surprised me with tonight’s X Factor isn’t the show and the fact John and Edward have managed to get through again. It is a new online shop was announced during the commercial break.
Very.co.uk announced itself to the world (measured by Coremetrics) however, the first device to hand to see what the site was like was an iphone. I didn’t look at it on my blackberry because I was so shocked that they hadn’t tested it (and yes we refreshed the page several times to make sure it wasn’t an initial loading error).
The text appears to be some rendering of meta tags because in the spirit of proper testing I’ve looked on this laptop using Firefox and the page renders well. To be honest I quite like the layout aswell :

I think that this is a lesson, in a society of 24/7 shopping, understand what devices people are likely to use. I have worked in client offices where they have a ‘multimedia room’ with every conceivable devices from blackberries to iphones, PSPs to WIIs, in order to understand what their products / sites look like.
It would be interesting to see what their Coremetrics stats say about non-PC devices. Again, this isn’t bashing very.co.uk and I think that the layout and refreshing of their homepage banner is quite good.
